At what depth and speed can a train operate over tracks that have water above the top of the rail?
Answer: Under 3 inches and no more than 5 mphFeedback: Water over the rail can lead to the ballast and subgrade washing away. These materials help hold the rail in place, and without them, water over the rail could lead to the track shifting and train derailments. Excessive water can also be damaging to our locomotives and railcars.
